Punjab Vehicle Registration & Token Tax Calculator 2026
Work out what you will actually pay at the Punjab Excise counter. This calculator uses the published rate schedule of the Punjab Excise, Taxation & Narcotics Control Department for new registration, annual token tax and transfer of ownership — including the federal advance income tax that filers and non-filers pay under section 231B. Enter your engine capacity and vehicle value, choose your transaction, and you get a line-by-line breakdown instead of one mystery number.
Friendly note: This tool follows publicly available tax slabs and rules and is provided for general educational reference only. It does not constitute tax, legal, or accounting advice. Actual liability may differ based on exemptions, allowances, and updates issued by the tax authority — please consult a qualified tax advisor or the official authority before filing.

How to use this calculator
- Pick your vehicle type — car or jeep, motorcycle, or a commercial goods vehicle.
- Choose the transaction: new registration, annual token tax, or transfer of ownership.
- Enter the engine capacity in CC exactly as printed on your invoice or registration book — slabs change sharply at 1000cc, 1300cc and 2000cc.
- Enter the vehicle value: the invoice price for a new vehicle, or the assessed value for a used one.
- Select filer or non-filer. Being on the Active Taxpayers List is usually the single biggest saving on this page.
- For transfers, add how many years have passed since first registration so the age-based reductions apply.
How it works
Registration fee
Punjab charges the registration fee as a percentage of vehicle value: 1% up to 1000cc, 2% for 1001–2000cc and 4% above 2000cc. Motorcycles pay fixed amounts of PKR 1,000 to PKR 2,500 by engine size, or 2% of value above 150cc. Commercial vehicles, tractors, rickshaws and taxis pay 1% of value. Electric vehicles receive a 95% exemption on both the registration fee and motor vehicle tax.
Advance income tax (section 231B)
At registration this is a percentage of value that rises with engine capacity — 0.5% for a filer up to 850cc, all the way to 12% above 3000cc, with non-filers charged three times that. On transfer it is a fixed rupee amount per slab, reduced by 10% for every year since the vehicle was first registered.
Token tax
Cars up to 1000cc pay a one-time lifetime token of PKR 20,000 at registration and nothing annually. Above that, Punjab now charges token tax as a share of invoice price — 0.3% for 1001–2000cc and 0.4% above 2000cc for 2026-27. Motorcycles pay a lifetime token of PKR 1,500. Commercial goods vehicles pay a flat annual amount tied to maximum laden weight, from PKR 1,000 up to PKR 8,000.
Capital Value Tax and rebates
CVT is 1% of value for vehicles above 1300cc, applied on every transfer and at registration if unpaid, with 10% depreciation each year and nothing due after five years. Pay your full year's token tax on or before 31 August and Punjab allows a rebate equal to 10% of the token tax.

Frequently asked questions
Is token tax in Punjab paid every year?
Yes for most cars above 1000cc — motor vehicle tax (token tax) is an annual levy. Motorcycles pay a one-time lifetime token of PKR 1,500 at registration, and cars up to 1000cc pay a lifetime token of PKR 20,000 at registration instead of an annual amount.
How much registration fee do I pay on a new car in Punjab?
The Punjab Excise registration fee is a percentage of the vehicle value: 1% up to 1000cc, 2% from 1001cc to 2000cc, and 4% above 2000cc. Commercial vehicles such as trucks, buses, rickshaws and taxis pay 1% of value.
Why is my non-filer amount so much higher?
Advance income tax under section 231B is charged at roughly three times the filer rate for people not on the Active Taxpayers List. On a 1300cc car this is 4.5% of value instead of 1.5% — often a difference of hundreds of thousands of rupees.
Do I get a discount for paying token tax early?
Yes. Punjab allows a rebate equal to 10% of the annual token tax if the full year's tax is paid on or before 31 August of that financial year. This calculator can apply that rebate for you.
What is CVT and when does it apply?
Capital Value Tax applies at 1% of vehicle value on every transfer, and at new registration if it has not already been paid, for vehicles above 1300cc. It runs for five years from 1 July of the financial year preceding registration, with 10% depreciation applied each year.
Are electric vehicles cheaper to register in Punjab?
Yes. Punjab Excise exempts 95% of the registration fee and 95% of the motor vehicle tax for electric vehicles, which makes EV ownership meaningfully cheaper on paper.
Does the transfer tax reduce with the age of the vehicle?
Yes. Advance tax on transfer of ownership under section 231B(2) is reduced by 10% for each year that has passed since the vehicle was first registered in Pakistan, reaching zero after ten years.
Is this calculator an official Punjab Excise tool?
No. It is an independent estimator built on the published Punjab Excise and Taxation Department rate schedule. Always confirm your final payable amount on the ePay Punjab app or at your nearest Excise office.
